Slowly but surely Ibrox fans are being informed that there is no transfer war-chest for Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

The feel-good stories about the fee for Steven Gerrard, the fee for Nathan Patterson and the £50m Europa League windfall are being buried with excitement whipped up over the millions coming in for Calvin Bassey.

Fees for Gerrard and Patterson have been wildly overhyped, the run to Seville brought in £17m from UEFA plus gate money from four knock-out ties minus bonus pay-outs and expenses.

The biggest issue and the one given least publicity is the settlement with Sports Direct over the contract ripped up by Dave King.

Only when the club accounts are published in the autumn will some detail emerge on that pay-out but for bears that can join the dots the signs are obvious.

Alan Nixon of The Sun reports:

RANGERS are targeting Stoke City’s Josh Tymon. Boss Gio van Bronckhorst wants the £5million-rated left-back but may be forced to wait until late in the window.

With clubs interested in taking Borna Barisic off Gers’ hands, Tymon, 23, is seen as his replacement. Van Bronckhorst will have to wait until they either sell the Croatian or qualify for the Champions League groups before being able to fund the move.

Having failed to sell Barisic over the last four transfer windows it is unlikely that any bid over £2m will come in for the 29-year-old.

Qualification for the Champions League group stage won’t be known until the final week of the transfer window in August.

Over the last few weeks Scott Arfield and Steve Davis have signed 12 month deals with Connor Goldson getting a four year extension.
