The prospects of Celtic signing Rabbi Matondo look bleak with six English clubs believed to be interested in signing the Schalke winger.

On June 7 Wales on Line reported Celtic’s interest in the 21-year-old as well as his younger brother Japhet who plays for Cardiff City.

With Liel Abada and James Forrest available on the right-wing, and possibly Jota on that flank, paying out a £3.5m fee for another right-wing option would seem unlikely.

Updating interest in the Welsh international, The Sun reports:

RABBI MATONDO is at the centre of a SIX-CLUB summer transfer fight. Premier League trio Brentford, Leeds and newly-promoted Nottingham Forest are all admirers of the Wales forward.

Matondo, who was on loan at Cercle Brugge last season but is contracted to Schalke, has also attracted interest from Ligue 1 clubs Lens, Brest and Troyes in France.

The 21-year-old did not find an agreement with Belgian club Brugge, where he scored nine goals last term, but is available for £3.5million.

At the age of 21 with a year left on his contract Celtic will be aware of Matondo but it appears that his agent is getting maximum coverage for the former Cardiff and Manchester City youth.

Celtic’s wing options look like hinging on whether or not Jota is signed on a permanent basis. More than a month after lifting the SPFL Premiership trophy negotiations are continuing with Benfica to secure a permanent deal.

With three EPL clubs quoted as being interested in Matondo it looks highly unlikely that he’ll be on his way to join Celtic.
