Villarreal are the latest club to join the fictional race to sign Alfredo Morelos.

After nine transfer windows the Colombian star is still stuck at Ibrox, still looking to hit 20 goals in the SPFL for the first time.

Clubs across Europe have keep keeping tabs, preparing bids and lining up offers but so far there has been no real prospect of an escape from Ibrox.

Betfair recently produced a PR piece speculating over which club the 25-year-old will next be playing for. Normally these sort of items are lucky to last 24 hours but almost three weeks later some publishers are running stories based wholly on an advert from a bookmaker.

On a quiet news day, Spanish publisher Marca reports:

The odds change every day and today it is Aston Villa who seem to be winning the race for Morelos in the current transfer market . Steven Gerrard already trained him in Glasgow. The Liverpool legend is hell-bent on bringing villains back to the elite of English football and dreams of a trident made up of Philippe Coutinho, Alfredo Morelos and Olie Watkins . Villa is trading at [ 4.0 ].

But very close in the forecasts appear two teams from the noble zone of Spanish football. Monchi has set his sights on the Colombian striker, who could follow in the footsteps of Luis Muriel or Carlos Bacca. That Morelos signs for Sevilla is paid at [ 5.0 ].

Unai Emery’s Yellow Submarine also has Morelos in its portfolio. It is the third on the list, at a share of [ 7.0 ]. Behind Villarreal are Crystal Palace and Everton.

Morelos hasn’t played since March, in five weeks times Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side play a Champions League qualifier.

At time of writing…no bids made.
The piece is based.on a second rate magazine journalists rumours.
