BBC Sport are jumping on board the myth that Celtic have missed out on their top summer signing target.

Whether Jota or Cameron Carter-Vickers was Ange Postecoglou’s top target is up for debate, what is crystal clear is that it wasn’t Ko Itakura.

On July 10 Celtic secured Carter-Vickers from Spurs, on July 1 Jota also moved to Celtic on a permanent basis.

Almost all Celtic fans were aware of those priorities, most media outlets had framed transfer business in the same way but when Itakura joined Borussia Moenchengladbach the Scottish Daily Express decided to put 2 and 2 together to come up with 55.

The lead story on BBC Scotland gossip is about Ellis Sims not returning to Hearts after a season long loan at Tynecastle. Somewhere in BBC Sport the chance to knock Celtic and big up Nicky Katic was too good to resist.

BBC and the Scottish Daily Express enjoy privileged media access to Celtic thanks to the club’s Communications Manager.

Joe i love this blog but I think you miss the point of the BBC gossip thing. I don’t think it’s the BBC endorsing the story, they are just reporting what others are saying. I don’t feel the BBC have a negative narrative re Celtic, well other than the pro Rangers ex players.

No disrespect meant by this comment as I love what you do HH

Editor: There are hundreds of gossip stories for BBC and BBC Scotland to select from, there is a very definite pattern. On Monday seven out of 10 stories on BBC Scotland related to Ibrox including yarns about Josh McPake and Cameron Bell, two no-mark starlets.

    • Seppington says:

Open your eyes and ears Colin! BBC Scotland is staffed top to bottom with a majority of huns, it’s not just the EBT recipients there that hate us. It might not be outpourings of hatred but pay attention to how they report similar stories when it comes to us compared to them. Every minor thing s treated as a disaster for us whereas with the scum it’s “nothing to see here, keep calm, all is well”.

  • Seppington says:

In this age of the internet we have no actual need to use these clowns to get any news/messages out to the fans. Their agendas are all-too obvious and they should be banned from CP in perpetuity. The information equivalent of old wax cylinders, their mediums of media will soon be as obsolete as a gramophone…so get ghem gone NOW Celtic!

  • Exiled in Ard Mhaca says:

Defund the BBC (Bluenose Broadcasting Cabal ) Sevco now. No licence fee for this pish.

  • Scud Missile says:

Lol BRILLIANT this just gets better all the time another duffer returns to ibrox after a loan spell that never worked out, but apparently he is a better player now.
Lol the TRAMPS are El Skinto stuck with the same shite that lost them the league last season, but talking the shite up.

It is a Heads Celtic lose, Tails deadco wins story. So, it is biased reporting. Which from a privately owned News source may not be much of a deal. But when it is the official State, publicly funded, broadcaster, then it certainly is a big deal because they are meant to be impartial and their stories representative of a broad cross-section of society, as it is those members who pay for the service.

If you are not individually, equally and evenly represented in that cross-section, then you are being cheated. And cheated by the State, who are supposed to be impartial and to any particular section of society and treat all sections as an equal interest. It is akin to giving Sevco supporters two votes to a Celtic fans single vote in the General Election.

It is something that the Nationalist Community in the North of Ireland had to put up with for generations in the Gerrymandered Statelet and which subsequently gave rise to the Civil Rights Marches of the seventies and the Troubles and what took place there subsequently. People in general have found that if you don’t stand up for what is yours legitimately, then it tends to be eroded and taken away!
