Is Celtic the problem for some Aberdeen fans or is it something deeper?

A couple of secretive Aberdeen fans have decided to unfurl a banner of protest about their club taking players on loan from Celtic.

It is unclear how representative they are of the wider Dons support, but it seems very clear that Liam Scales is the target of their anger- perhaps it is his nationality rather than his parent club that is causing concern?

Celtic sending players on loan to Aberdeen is fairly rare with only Adam Montgomery (for five matches) and Ryan Christie making the switch this century. Christie was an outstanding success, helping Derek McInnes’ side into the final of the 2017 Scottish Cup.

It seems that the same Dons supporters had no problem with Ross McCrorie moving on loan to Pittodrie in August 2020, in May of this year the Dons utility man took a trip to Seville but fortunately didn’t suffer from drought during his visit to the Spanish city.

Back in 2010 Aberdeen and the old Rangers club came to a very special agreement as the Daily Record explained:

Rangers and Aberdeen tonight swapped two players ahead of the transfer deadline with Richard Foster moving to Ibrox in place of Andrius Velicka.

Foster joins Rangers on a season-long loan with Velicka moving in the opposite direction for the same period.

The pacy Foster will help provide cover for Walter Smith’s squad, which is smaller than recent years, as he can play at full-back and across the midfield.

Returning to Pittodrie, Craig Brown appointed Foster as Aberdeen captain.

When that mob talk it usually is about money or else it is utter filth! I listened to it in the Stands at Celtic Park when they visited. Pure utter revolting filth, nothing remotely even connected to football! Just utter Low – Life!
