Darren Moore has refused to be drawn on speculation linking Sheffield Wednesday with an interest in Kemar Roofe.

Word has gone out from Ibrox that they are happy to consider offers for the former Leeds United striker but there are two major stumbling blocks to completing a deal.

Roofe still has two years to run on a contract that is believed to be paying out over £40,000 per week following his lucrative stop-off with Anderlecht.

Yorkshire Live reports:

Strengthening the forward line remains high on Moore’s agenda before the window shuts on September 1. Wednesday retain a strong interest in Hull City attacker Mallik Wilks and have been heavily linked with a move for Rangers striker Kemar Roofe in the past 24 to 48 hours.

Moore declined to comment on speculation linking the Owls with Wilks and Roofe, saying: “I can’t be drawn into that because they are simply not our players to discuss at this moment.”

Despite their productive window, Moore said he was “not entirely happy with the balance of the team” and is acutely aware of the importance of adding more pace to the team. As for potential outgoings, he ruled out the prospect of Fisayo Dele-Bashiru leaving Hillsborough. The talented midfielder was the subject of a six-figure bid from Blackpool earlier this month.

Last season Roofe only started nine SPFL matches which is similar to fellow crock Filip Helander, signed in 2019 from Bologna for £3m.

Alongside Jack Simpson those three are draining the best part of £100,000 a week from the Ibrox payroll with little prospect of any meaningful playing time in the season ahead.
