Before Sunday’s match against Aberdeen there will be a ceremony that will gladden the heart of every Celtic fan.
Last season’s SPFL title win was one of the sweetest and most satisfying in the club’s history- with direct access to the group stage of the Champions League it is certainly the most lucrative.
There is still one aspect t be signed off and that will be the unfurling of the SPFL league flag.
Over recent years Fergus McCann, John Clark and Sean Fallon have carried out the duty, the most recent flag ceremony (in public) was in 2019 when Liz McNeill and Sadie Chalmers performed the task just a few months after the deaths of their husbands.
There are plenty of options from Celtic’s history to carry out Sunday’s task to a backdrop of 60,000 cheering fans and thousands more watching on television from Santa Ponsa to Las Vegas, Melbourne and Tokyo.
A year ago just over 20,000 were allowed in to watch Ange Postecoglou’s side start the season with a 6-0 win over Dundee.
Sunday will complete another great chapter in the history of the club with a special welcome and cheer for the hero of the past that unfurls that title winning flag.
UPDATE: Celtic have announced that Callum McGregor will unfurl the flag.
2019 Liz McNeill and Sadie Chalmers
2018 Danny McGrain
2017 Scott Brown
Might not be in line with tradition, [?],
but Ange should be invited to raise the flag himself.
Recognition of his massive impact from the absolute shambles he came into a year ago.
