Whether it is their desperation for clicks or need to reassure their fast declining readership in Morningside The Scotsman has decided to return to the nineties and the glories of Dave Murray for some feel-good news.

Gordan Petric, Alan McLaren and Dariusz Adamczuk were all linked with Celtic before the charm and dubious financial sources of whizz-kid Murray lured them across the city for the glories of Ibrox.

Mo Johnston was an early example, Nacho Novo did likewise although an arrangement for disguised remuneration haunts the Spaniard as HMRC chase up on back payments.

Anyone connected with football since July 2012 will know that those days are consigned to the history books alongside Rangers who were sent into liquidation by Her Majesty after a brief meeting that left 276 creditors out of pocket.

It seems that Joel Sked and The Scotsman haven’t moved on. Reading in a rival newspaper that Tom Lawrence is about to join the SPFL runners-up there was only one thought- Selik have been snubbed again for the majestic lure of Ibrox.

The Glasgow Times makes no link to Celtic, honestly admitting that Cardiff City, Blackburn Rovers and Ipswich Town were the other clubs interested in signing Lawrence.

Lawrence was linked with Celtic earlier this year and wanted by Sheffield United but Rangers have convinced the 28-year-old to make the move north, according to the Glasgow Times.

In this day and age being linked with a club means zero. During the transfer window a dozen players a week are linked with Celtic, they tend to have a serious interest in about 10 and usually sign four or five during a transfer window.

Celtic had no serious interest in Tom Lawrence, the definition of Championship journeyman with a serious stain on his career if Sked wants to search his name alongside drunk driving. With interest from Ibrox his agent would have contacted Celtic and found the brief conversation one sided.

The only way to make Lawrence relevant is to mention Celtic in the headline tells you all you need to know about the ‘stunning scoop’.

Had Celtic been interested Lawrence would be joining the hoops, Champions League football in a stadium that holds 10,000 more than the fast decaying lisyed building that is Ibrox.

The 28-year-old Welshman joins Antonio Colak at Ibrox, signed with the loose change given to the football budget from the imminent £6m sale of Joe Aribo to Southampton.

A google search of Colak, Ibrox and Malmo will bring back bad memories for staff at The Scotsman, had the Croatian not scored twice last August the Tribute Act may well be able to compete with Celtic in the real world.
