Argentinos Juniors chairman Cristian Malaspina has flagged up the availability of Fausto Vera.
Corinthians of Brazil, Genk from Belgium and Celtic have all been linked with the midfielder who is under contract until the end of this year with his club having an option to extend that by 12 months.
In attacking midfield areas Ange Postecoglou has call on Matt O’Riley, David Turnbull and Reo Hatate which allowed Tom Rogic to move on but it seems that Callum McGregor is the only option that the hoops boss can rely on to anchor the midfield.
Alexandro Bernabei and Ben Siegrist have provided strong alternatives at left-back and goalkeeper but the defensive midfield position role only has the untried duo of James McCarthy and Yosuke Ideguchi as alternatives to McGregor.
Updating the situation with Vera, the Daily Record reports:
Speaking in an interview with Radio Punto in Argentina, Malaspina admitted: “As a club, when there is a value that cannot be refused, we have to negotiate. Nobody is irreplaceable. But, equally, it is also a position that we are covered. We are calm if it happens. It is a possibility we sell and then he stays with us (until September) which would be the ideal scenario. But it could be that a club that comes to buy has other ideas. We are working. He has been with us for a long time and we have to be sensitive too. It is not easy.”
With two and a half weeks to go until the SPFL opener against Aberdeen it is likely that Postecoglou will want to have new signings bedded in rather than doing business in the last week of the window with the Champions League opener on September 5 or 6 looming large.
The end game for the Daily Record writing stories like this is the ‘ Celtic snub ‘ headline
He looks similar the boy Borre, 19. He could be a good one!
