Two out of three Daily Record reporters believe that Celtic’s summer spending has pushed them ahead of their Glasgow rivals for the start of the new season.

So far Celtic have spend around £17m securing the loans for Jota, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Daizen Maeda with Ben Siegrist and Alexandro Bernabei added to the title winning squad.

At Ibrox John Souttar is the only new face so far over the line with both teams playing friendly matches this week.

This morning the Record’s Monday Morning Jury was asked:

Celtic have spent around £17.5m so far this window. Are the Hoops stealing a march on their Ibrox rivals?

KEITH JACKSON: Yes. Celtic’s ducks are already nicely in a row while Rangers still don’t appear to know if Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent and Joe Aribo will still be at the club next season.

ANDY NEWPORT: They’re definitely getting their work done early but given CCV and Jota were there last season, it won’t be a vastly different Celtic line-up this time. Rangers need freshening up but they still have four weeks to get deals done before the term starts.

GORDON PARKS: It certainly looks like it. Celtic have managed to get the big two over the line with Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers and Rangers are playing catch-up but it’s still early days.

For the first time in 14 years Celtic have some certainty over their pre-season build-up with no UEFA qualifying rounds to negotiate.

Group stage football in the Champions League should generate £40m with almost half of that committed to new signings.

With 10,000 extra seats inside Celtic Park compared to Ibrox and sales piling in from the latest Adidas kit deals Celtic appear to be flexing their muscles from a position of strength.
