Burnley have announced the signing of Frankie Deane.

The central midfielder was a regular in the Celtic B squad last season that finished in joint second place in the Lowland League.

Contract details at this level are usually vague but after a Tweet from the player’s Dad Burnley have announced that Deane will be part of their u-21 squad for the new season.

Speaking to the Burnley website the 17-year-old said:

It’s a massive pleasure for me to be joining Burnley, this is a big Club and one which I’m proud to now be a part of.

Having spent the last month or so in and around the place, I’m just looking forward to getting going now, and having a good season.

While Deane prepares himself for a new challenge his former Celtic team-mates are reflecting on Saturday’s 4-1 win away to Gretna 2008.

Stephen McManus can field players aged under 20 but the squad involved in the Lowland League will be very close to those involved in the u-19 UEFA Youth League which starts next month, mirroring Celtic’s Champions League fixtures.

On Sunday Celtic’s B team play Hearts B in the Lowland League before hosting Livingston B in the SPFL Trust Trophy.

Frankie didn’t get a fair chance last season with a run of games. If he was brought in he would have an assist or goal to his name but the following week he would be a sub and on a lot of occasions an unused one.

Last season we had the boy from the B team that had made it clear he wasn’t staying but going to Liverpool youngsters( even though he had made his 1st team debut with celtic) which is entirely his choice but once he had made his decision he shouldn’t have been anywhere near a celtic jersey for the B team and lads like Frankie who where desperate to stay and make things happen at Celtic should have got their opportunity to show what they could do but instead the boy now at Liverpool kept getting picked.

I would like to wish Frankie all the luck in the world at Burnley and I hope he goes out and shows that Celtic have made yet another mistake in letting him slip.
