Celtic’s B team has landed a tough draw away to Dunfermline in the third round of the SPFL Trust Trophy.
With Stephen McManus and Darren O’Dea in charge the young Celts have knocked out Albion Rovers and Livingston B to reach the all in stage which includes clubs from Wales and Northern Ireland.
Dunfermline are now managed by James McPake who was in the Premiership a year ago with Dundee, this season The Pars are in joint top spot in League One alongside Airdrie with 11 points from five matches, Falkirk are a point behind in third place.
The full draw is:
Buckie Thistle v Linfield
Cliftonville v Queen’s Park
The New Saints v Dundee
Clyde v Caernarfon Town
Peterhead v Elgin City
Falkirk v Partick Thistle
Cove Rangers v Raith Rovers
Dunfermline Athletic v Celtic B
Arbroath v East Fife
Inverness Caledonian Thistle v Brechin City
Morton v Ayr United
Montrose v Kilmarnock B
Alloa Athletic v Airdrieonians
Queen of the South v FC Edinburgh
Annan Athletic v Kelty Hearts
Rangers B v Hamilton Academical
Ties to be played on the weekend of September 24/25
That match will follow on from the UEFA Youth League matches against Real Madrid and Shakhtar Donetsk.
As well as the cup competitions Celtic B are again playing in the Lowland League, on Saturday they beat Dalbeattie Star 5-0 to go into fourth place ahead of Wednesday’s home match against Stirling University.
A team going well under a new manager, McPake, at a side Grant left at the bottom of the division and Hughes couldn’t save from relegation.
A tough draw. But if Celtic show a bit of consistency and form, they might be able to beat them!
The B bhoys, Stephen and Darren are capable of beating any team. I see no problems ahead. COYBIG
