Celtic winger completes exit from the club

After coming through the ranks of the Celtic Academy to make three first team appearances Owen Moffat has joined Blackpool on a three year contract.

Included in those Celtic appearances was a League Cup Final against Hibs at Hampden which came on the back of his debut off the bench away to Ross County in the ‘Tony Ralston Match’.

At the age of 20 there wasn’t much prospect of a first team breakthrough for Moffat who has opted against another stint in the Lowland League to try his luck with Blackpool’s Development squad who have an u-23 league to play in.

I’m really happy to sign for Blackpool. The Club has been interested for a few weeks now and it’s good to get the deal done. I want to put some good performances in for the Development Squad and see what happens. Hopefully I can push on into the first-team squad.

Celtic are well off for wing options with Mikey Johnstone likely to go out on loan before the window closes.

Moffat’s departure again highlights the difficulties in moving from the Academy into the first team squad.

The Lowland League is unlikely to help that process but a getting players out on loan to full-time clubs in the Championship at an early age should help the process.
