Graeme Souness has joined the critics of Alfredo Morelos.

It seems that 10 transfer windows speculating over a lucrative transfer that has never quite materialised has taken their toll on the striker.

Carrying the team last year he suffered a thigh injury training with the Colombian national side that brought his season to a halt in March.

Never the most athletic looking of players, Morelos has looked badly out of shape in his substitute appearances which have all been at Ibrox.

Given the opportunity of 30 minutes against Hibs on Saturday he reacted in typical fashion by kicking out or throwing elbows or arms in the direction of opponents.

After one double attack on Marijan Cabraja Willie Collum had no option but to show a red card and leave Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side down to nine men for the last 20 minutes.

Picking up on Souness appearing alongside Jim White on TalkSPORT to discuss Morelos, The Sun reports the former Rangers (IL) boss saying:

What’s in his head? The ball is played up to him, he backs in, he feels the guy’s with him.

Then he throws another elbow. He puts his arm out as a feeler initially, that comes down and then he has another go.

If you do that then you will get sent off. His team were up against it and down to ten men. It comes to a point with a player like that where you have to cut your losses in my opinion.

Souness added:

He runs that risk when he gets excited and someone goes through him or elbows him, he is looking for revenge.

You can understand that but you have to be cuter and he’s not learned that art. He is not cute in the slightest.

Hibs got Morelos at it and he fell for it. He hasn’t learned his lesson and I think Rangers should look to cash in. The hard facts are if you get sent off eight times you are not learning.

With absolutely no interest in Morelos when he was playing and scoring Souness and the rest of the cheerleaders are in for a shock if they think that the Colombian ace can be shifted on to another club.

On July 25 van Bronckhorst was telling Sky Sports that a new contract was close to being agreed- a month later no deal has been struck with the troubled five year relationship between player and club close to an end.

Some players just don’t want to play and a sending off is no inconvenience (to themselves).
