Bobby Madden isn’t the only familiar name missing on the refereeing rota.

Without his lucrative European appointments Madden has taken his brand of refereeing to the lower reaches of the English game to help make ends meet.

Down the years Andrew Dallas has been a regular alongside the other Lanarkshire referees such as Willie Collum and John Beaton that dominate the big match appointments.

Hugh’s little boy has yet to surface this season, after four rounds of league fixtures and five sets of League Cup ties the name Dallas A has yet to surface in the SFA appointments list.

During the 20/21 season Dallas picked up an injury with his last SFA pay day coming on December 5 with the match between Motherwell and Hibs hardly racking up the mileage.

Last season his first match was on 18 September, another local affair with Hamilton losing at home to Ayr. Dallas took charge of just 12 matches last season although the SFA maintained his income stream with regular appointments as the fourth official.

The Lanarkshire based ref was only given six Premiership matches, his final appointment was at Ibrox in May when Ross County visited with Tavpen among the scorers.

Not too long ago referees such as Bobby Tait got to bow out with a trip to Ibrox with pictures and autographs thrown in, a trip to the Blue Room and a slurp out of the Loving Cup.

It looks like the pay days are over for Andrew, finishing up at the stadium where he awarded the home side four penalties in a match against St Mirren in February 2019.

There is of course the opportunity of becoming a VAR official, with access to Daddy’s wealth of experience.
