Willie Collum will be back in the spotlight on Wednesday when he takes charge of the Ross County v Celtic League Cup tie.

The Lanarkshire based referee came under criticism from virtually all sides for his performance in the weekend match at Easter Road with the SFA quickly downgrading John Lundstram’s red card to a yellow.

Criticism was relentless with Kenny Miller claiming that Collum couldn’t wait to get the red card out, despite that the SFA will put him back in front of the cameras with Premier Sport showing next week’s action from Dingwall.

Collum will be assisted by Alan Mulvanny and David Doig as Celtic begin their defence of the trophy won last season with a 2-1 Hampden victory over Hibs.

The draw for the quarter-finals will be made after the Celtic tie is completed with extra-time and penalties if required. With that match being played on August 31 the SFA have put the transfer deadline back 24 hours to midnight on September 1.

Steven McLean will referee Sunday’s SPFL match away to Dundee United.

  • Ian McGuigan says:

Are ‘The Rangers’ quite happy with Don Robertson refereeing their game on Saturday as wouldn’t like to see them getting upset again and throwing the dummy out the pram.

  • Donald Macintyre says:

The hopeless referee will not be handed a 2nd generation game but he could be responsible with his incompetence for a loss. He will be trying his best to make sure the public know that he is back in line and following the party line, it’s a disgrace.
He should be unable to officiate at any more games
