And another honest mistake from Nick Walsh at Tynecastle

Nick Walsh is apparently one of Scotland’s top referees.

Yesterday at Tynecastle he was in charge of Celtic for the third time in 11 SPFL Premierships matches.

The lunchtime match in Edinburgh was effectively the launch of VAR but with a focus on technology it seems that the match referee was badly out of touch with many of the bread and butter decisions, as was assistant David Roome.

Just seven minutes into the match Celtic found themselves attacking down the left with Aaron Mooy cutting the ball back to Daizen Maeda. His close range shot is blocked by the chest then face of Toby Sibbick, for extra guidance to Walsh the Hearts defender fell to the ground to buy his side some extra time before the corner is taken.

There was no need for that, Walsh obliged by awarding a goal kick. It set a pattern that was very consistent throughout the match.

Tomorrow Walsh will be back at the day job working on the fitness of Murray Park starlets at Boclair Academy with virtually no chance of any adverse comment from anyone at Celtic.

So prior to VAR if a referee had a shocker ge would be relegated yo the Championship for a game or two.
Now that VAR is here then the assistant guy should pick it up and correct it.

Both failed yesterday so will they both be relegated for a while ?
Terrible state of affairs if not only are you a bad referee, but you’re incompetent after watching several replays.

Agree with poor reffing but somebody has to start calling out those many hearts players who fall pleased to the ground if you have the audacity to brush past them. Cochrane’s a particular exponent

At the next AGM let’s see someone ask the board about this. They can try and flim-flam about not having seen the 5WA but they can’t deny the very public reality of this supposedly impartial referee being employed by one of the member clubs! What sort of knots will they get themselves into trying to figure out a way to deny that it is an issue they need to do something about? “Smart business-people” or not when it comes to the fitba they are a shower of ineffectual duffers…

VAR clearly shows that this ref is not good enough for the SPL. Better to bring in competent refs from elsewhere.
