Ange Postecoglou has cleared up the mystery of David Turnbull’s absence from Celtic’s Champions League defeat against RB Leipzig.

The midfielder was sent home early from Scotland duty last month, came off the bench in the 2-1 win over Motherwell but was missing from the squad that played in Germany in midweek.

With Turnbull and Aaron Mooy missing Oliver Abildgaard and James McCarthy were used as substitutes with Celtic’s midfield options restricted by the injury to Callum McGregor.

Most Celtic media conferences start with a fitness check on the squad, after discussing McGregor’s situation Postecoglou spoke about Turnbull.

Dave Turnbull will miss out, he has some tonsillitis, we’re hoping that by Tuesday hopefully that has cleared up, we’ll wait and see.

The former Motherwell man hasn’t yet got fully into his stride this season but did score a memorable goal in the Glasgow derby on September 3.

Although Turnbull is a different type of midfielder to McGregor the absence of the Celtic skipper will mean more options for others over the next few weeks.
