Ange Postecoglou is confident of having Giorgos Giakoumakis back for Wednesday’s Champions League tie away to RB Leipzig.

The striker picked up an injury during the international break and was missing from today’s 2-1 win over Motherwell.

Kyogo Furuhashi was the only genuine striker available to Ange Postecoglou but with the Champions League returning on Wednesday there should be another striking option open to the Celtic boss.

Covering his after match media conference Football Scotland reports Postecoglou saying:

Any players coming back for Leipzig? We’ll see. Hopefully Giakoumakis should be okay. The reports I’ve had so far, and Cameron Carter-Vickers we’ll just sort of see day to day proposition.

Stephen Welsh and Moritz Jenz played in central defence today with no other options on the bench.

Having Carter-Vickers back to face Leipzig would provide Postecoglou with a big boost but with 12 more matches to be played before the World Cup break on November 12 no chances can be taken on the fitness of anyone.

David Turnbull, Sead Haksabanovic and Daezen Maeda also picked up knocks on international duty but featured in today’s win over Motherwell.

Callum McGregor’s red card means that he will be suspended for Saturday’s match at St Johnstone, compensating against that Oliver Abildgaard came off the bench to make his Celtic debut in the closing minutes of today’s match.

  • John McNulty says:

If CCV isn’t fit for Wednesday against RB then we should play Abildgaard in midfield with calmac and either Reo or Mat.
