Eighteen days after the event Football Scotland have decided to dig into the ‘provocative message of an offensive nature’ that resulted in a €10k fine from UEFA.

When Celtic supporters produced two banners away to Shakhtar Donetsk they received blanket media coverage.

TalkSPORT led the mourning over the banners with Ally McCoist and Graeme Souness devastated by the content on the banners. Neither man has ever apologised for their part in the singing at Tannadice in 1989.

Picking up on their comments on TalkSPORT comments Scottish newspaper websites carried the story on but for 18 days there was nothing on the offensive banner displayed by the Union Bears at Anfield.

Football Scotland reports:

The banner which saw Rangers hit with a €10k fine was an anti-UEFA message that attracted the ire of the governing body.

The Ibrox side have been fined €40k for various incidents in the 2-0 loss away to Liverpool earlier this month and one of those was an offensive banner. Football Scotland understands the message was directed at UEFA and was deemed as offensive by the governing body and it has led to the club being punished.

Next week all Ibrox fans are banned from attending the Champions League in Napoli, online thousands are claiming to be travelling anyway but are likely to suffer from last minute call-offs. Napoli fans are unlikely to be offering half-n-half Friendship scarves.

The sevco fans are untouchables in Scotland. But, as their players find out with neutral refs, the fans and board are astonished when rules are applied evenly and fairly.
