Marian Shved looks like missing out on a return to Celtic Park tomorrow night.

The winger spent a mysterious two years as a Celtic player, technically signed by Brendan Rodgers in January 2019 then quietly moved on to Mechelen in July 2021 without kicking a ball for Ange Postecoglou.

Shved made three substitute appearances under Neil Lennon but his name will mostly be associated with Rodgers’ comment about already having a million wingers. Within a month the Irishman was managing Leicester City.

During the summer Shved left Mechelen for Shakhtar Donetsk who were then drawn with Celtic in the Champions League.

Shved scored twice in Shakhtar’s surprise 4-1 win away to RB Leipzig in Matchday One, barely featured when Celtic drew 1-1 with Shakhtar in Warsaw and according to Football Scotland he is unlikely to face the hoops tomorrow night:

Shved, alongside defender Yukhum Konoplya and midfielder Oleh Ocheretko, all missed training prior to Shakhtar’s departure on Monday.

Celtic need to get a win tomorrow night to keep their hopes of a Europa League place alive going into next week’s match away to Real Madrid.

Ange Postecoglou will be without Callum McGregor, Stephen Welsh and Carl Starfelt from his squad with late decisions to be taken on Jota and David Turnbull.
