After missing four matches through injury Stephen Welsh is back in training and in contention for Sunday’s match away to Livingston.

The defender impressed away to RB Leipzig and St Johnstone but picked up a knock following the home match against Leipzig to force him out of contention.

Moritz Jenz and Cameron Carter-Vickers have been paired together in Celtic’s last five matches with no central defensive options on the bench.

Welsh and Carl Starfelt have both trained this week which gives Ange Postecoglou scope to make some changes.

Celtic still have five fixtures to navigate before the World Cup break with everyone except Callum McGregor now fit and available.

From the turn of the year through until the end of last season Carter-Vickers and Starfelt played every minute of the 18 SPFL fixtures that delivered the title.

Every other outfield position saw a level of rotation but in the very near future Postecoglou could have four central defenders battling for two positions in the side.
