Nick Walsh was originally appointed to be on VAR duty for the game at Ibrox but with Steven McLean pulling out the Bearsden PE teacher was put in charge of Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side for the fourth time this season.

On Monday morning Walsh will be back at the day job working on the fitness levels of Murray Park starlets at Boclair Academy.

VAR made its debut at Tynecastle last week with Walsh having a clear view of Michael Smith raising his left arm to deflect a pass from James Forrest, after the briefest of pauses as he consulted with McLean who told him that there was no need to consult the pitchside monitor.

Derek Crothers quit refereeing in 2018 due to a culture of bullying, nepotism and cronyism as he observed the rise of Andrew Dallas through the ranks, Hugh’s boy is now a VAR.

Willie Collum was promoted to VAR duty today, picking up an extra payment to go along with tomorrow’s match between Livingston and Celtic.

Walsh again missed a penalty claim, Collum suggested that he should look at the monitor with James Tavernier surprisingly missing from the penalty spot a minute later.

That miss didn’t really matter with the Ibrox side winning 4-1. After two weekends of VAR visitors to Ibrox have suffered a red card and penalty with silence from the SFA following the media charm offensive ahead of VAR’s introduction.

Should Celtic ask for publication of VAR conversations between McLean and Walsh?

Apart from anything else, there is a strong perception of bias with this referee.

He awards penalties to sevco on a regular basis, either deliberately seeing what he wants to see or just giving them the benefit of the doubt.

Celtic never gets the same benefit of the doubt either with him or several of his brithers, hence the fact that the most attacking team in the league has not had a penalty award since April.

    Statistically significant? Yes. Surprising? No.

    Just a coincidence? Fuck no!

These peepul are a disease that is killing Scottish football.

DRY YOUR EYES your all watching a FAKE football match, remember World of Sport on A Saturday afternoon with the wrestling big Daddy and his pals with dummy fighting then think of the SPFL just now and VAR.

celtic need to get the rag out , and soon , these referees are a law on to themselves and celtic are endorsing their actions by not having them censored , sevco had collum barred from reffing their games after he made decisions against them.

These refs have in the past cost celtic dearly and could do so again this season , i can just hear them now , so celtic wanted var ….. we’ll give ye var !!! just look at Robertson’s decision not to send sands off for the last man tackle and he on a yellow , among the recent hand ball , it’s simply not acceptable anymore

Robert Kelly once said of a certain trophy “If They Want It That Badly, Then Why Not Just Give Them It?” Perhaps that is all they want?!

  • John mcghee says:
