Chris Sutton is able to apply perspective but doesn’t shy away from delivering verdicts on Celtic’s progress under Ange Postecoglou.

It is possible to praise and admire the progress made over 15 months while also acknowledging problems and mistakes.

Across the regular midfield options there isn’t anyone with real defensive strength, Aaron Mooy possibly but the Australian missed last night’s match through injury and is mainly consigned to late appearances as a substitute.

Without signing Joe Hart last August it is difficult to see how last season’s success would have been possible, despite his career apparently being on the slide for four years the former England keeper made an immediate impact at Celtic, leading by example on the pitch and training ground.

Over the last couple of domestic games Hart hasn’t seemed to be quite at his usual levels, last night one mistake turned the match around even though he did get over it to pull off a couple of a couple of impressive saves.

Watching BT Sports coverage of the match The Express reports Sutton saying:

It was a horror show from Hart – I don’t know what he sees there. It was horrible from Hart wasn’t it. It really was. You can’t make mistakes like that – you have just got away with one.

Hart’s howler came immediately after Leipzig had a goal over-ruled by VAR.

Ben Siegrist has made one Celtic appearance so far this season but with so much trust invested in Hart the former Manchester City keeper is likely to retain his place for Saturday’s match away to St Johnstone.

Suttons commentary is always doom and gloom. As for Rory Hamilton, a thought he was gonna have a wee Tommy tank over the Leipzig striker.
