Furious Ally McCoist vents his VAR anger

Ally McCoist isn’t happy with the way that UEFA applies the Laws of the Game.

Unlike in the SPFL in the Champions League UEFA examine every goal to ensure that it is legal, no honest mistakes get through with the letter of the law applied at every stage.

If an attacking player is half a boot in front of the last defender the ‘goal’ is disallowed. If a forward is crouching in the eye line of a goalkeeper then the ‘goal’ will be disallowed.

It has been happening in major matches since the 2018 World Cup Finals in Russia but when Celtic finally benefit from the Laws of the Game being applied one fun-loving pundit isn’t quite so happy.

And in a cheeky dig at his co-presenter on talkSPORT this morning, McCoist insisted Brazil would have been livid if it had been the Hoops the decision had been against.

He said: “What was the story last night? Did Leipzig have to score two to get one, what is the deal?”

Brazil replied: “Yeah, I thought both the goals that were chopped off were offside, if I’m being deadly honest, I said ‘that’s offside’.

As a manager McCoist famously led Rangers to defeats against Malmo and Maribor, getting his side knocked out of two European competitions before the end of August.

VAR is expected to be introduced to the SPFL Premiership before the World Cup break next month.
