Did you hear about the Communications Director who quit his dream job without a statement?

During his two and a half years at Ibrox David Graham became something of an expert in producing statements, mostly as a rallying call to the gullible to highlight the numerous injustices served on their club.

The SPFL vote to end the 2019/20 season early kept the former DUP councillor busy while in May there were three statements on the fate of thirsty bears forced to drink toilet water while Aaron Ramsey missed a penalty.

As someone whose job was to manage the news in the most favourable light something strange happened yesterday.

First out of the traps was former Rangers Media chief Lindsay Herron who broke the news of Graham’s departure in the Scottish Daily Express, quickly followed by the Daily Record and Scottish Sun. There has been no statement or even a tweet from Ibrox on the departure of Graham who joined the Board of Directors in December 2021.

The man that eased himself into the picture with Steven Gerrard and Giovanni van Bronckhorst as often as possible, who opened the doors of Ibrox to Ramsey in January.

On Follow Follow last night one of Graham’s old buddies from the Heart & Hand podcast mentioned stepping down due to a family illness. That could easily have been covered with a short statement requesting privacy or taking compassionate leave while a deputy stood in.

Last September Celtic announced the rapid exit of Dom McKay after less than 100 days as CEO. That sparked all sorts of speculation, just as Graham’s rapid exit has at Ibrox.
