Mention Tony Ralston and among the memories of last season a late, late goal away to Ross County comes to mind.

When your right-back pops up at the left hand post to head in the winning goal for a team reduced to 10 men you know you have something special. Even more so when it is scored by a life-long fan that has come through the Academy ranks since his primary school days.

Afterwards more than a few fans described Ralston’s winner away to Ross County as the type of goal that wins the league.

Yesterday against St Johnstone there was a similar feeling with the Celtic defender enjoying the goal from Giorgos Giakoumakis every bit as much as his own famous strike in Dingwall.

Playing after a midweek European match is always tough, even more so with a 12.30 kick-off and your captain missing, possibly out of action for a month or more.

This Celtic squad is gaining experience at every turn, they’ve been through a lot together with every sign that they are getting stronger and more resilient for the challenges ahead.

This is also apparent with Castlemilks James McCarthy. His sheer will to keep the ball alive for the winner yesterday,is up there with Tony Ralston’s winner. Both men steeped in the club.I don’t get the fans who say McCarthy just topping up his pension. Not true
