Roll of Shame from Beaton, Walsh, Dickinson and Robertson as they bottle it from red card calls

Yesterday at Motherwell the names switched to King and Dickinson but the script was familiar.

With the exception of Willie Collum and John Lundstram at Easter Road in August Scottish referees suddenly show their lenient side when it comes to brutality from Ibrox players.

In other circumstances players wearing a different colour of shirt can expect to see a red card but with their season hanging by a thread Crawford Allan’s team are doing all that they can to keep things competitive for as long as possible.

Without three central defenders, yesterday at Fir Park Leon King delivered a high and dangerous attack on Stuart McKinstry, if it had been at the other end Steven Hammell and the Motherwell fans would have expected to see red.

David Dickinson knows the stakes at play. Applying the Laws of the Game in the Champions League has resulted in four defeats, three penalties and one red card with two more matches to come.

The introduction of VAR next week will create an extra layer of security with the remote officials selected by the same system that selects Dickinson, Beaton, Robertson and Walsh to handle matches every weekend.

And the BENNYS in our media wonder why our refs don’t get the call ups to to big tournaments, nickel and dime refs in a nickel dime league.

Is it any wonder none of them get near european games.

Their blind obedience to the blue cause denies them the chance to ref at the top table, but such is their loyalty they are happy to pay that price.

People talk about the game here being rubbish, the refs are the biggest contributors to that opinion.

  • Stevie Brown says:

Won’t make a blind bit of difference as Beaton is in charge, he gets away with blatant cheating right now, it’s there for all to see then goes to Rangers pubs to claim free beer and adulation from the fans. VAR doesn’t and won’t change anything.
