It is fair to say that Ange Postecoglou is underwhelmed by the introduction of VAR to Scottish football.

For supporters there is the novelty angle that the right decisions will overcome the regular honest mistakes while media outlets are in a state of high anxiety over the additional drama that it will throw up.

Postecoglou has worked with VAR in Japan and in Celtic’s UEFA matches where there has been a couple of big decisions made, noticeably away to RB Leipzig, that no one could dispute as the original decisions were overturned.

Four years after VAR became operational in the EPL the SPFL is about to break new ground but the Celtic boss looks certain to get a solid night’s sleep despite the growing excitement around him in Scottish football.

Question: Obviously the introduction of VAR to the Scottish top flight this weekend, is it something that you are looking forward to?

After bursting out laughing and lowering his head Postecoglou said:

I’ve never seen so much excitement about something that… mate, I’m totally ambivalent to it. I think that the best outcome for VAR this weekend is if we don’t use it, it means that all of the decisions are right. It’s not a new signing or something, that stuff doesn’t rock my boat mate.

Nick Walsh will referee tomorrow’s match from Tynecastle with Steven McLean the VAR official reviewing the game which will be live on Sky Sports.
