A source very close to Giovanni van Bronckhorst has given the Daily Express a detailed rundown on the end of the Dutchman’s reign at Ibrox.
Lindsay Herron, a former Head of Media at both Ibrox clubs, has obtained the scoop that every reporter has been looking for.
With more than 30 years in the business and a very detailed Ibrox contact book Herron’s account looks to be very authentic as the dust settles in van Bronckhorst’s 12 months in charge.
Michael Beale is being heavily touted to take over at Ibrox but the QPR boss would be well advised to take a close look at how the club operates before walking out on the English Championship side.
In The Express Herron reports:
Our source has told us that van Bronckhorst met twice with the powers-that-be with his plans to turn around the situation when the season resumes next month. However, he learned his fate on Sunday with the news breaking the following morning.
The source said: “Rangers have pulled in more money from transfers in a year than they have ever done in their history but it wasn’t invested in the team. Gio was asked to get Rangers back onto the international stage and he did that with the Europa League Final and then the Champions League.
“Of course, the campaign was tough. And it had an effect on league performances mostly due to the heavy schedule of games.
“The fans are only really focused on the league so when it becomes nine points they get angry. Social media can be a powerful thing.
“Gio met twice with the club to discuss the way forward then, I believe, there was a meeting of the major share-holders on Sunday and the decision was made.”
