Adam Montgomery delivered an unexpected bonus for Ange Postecoglou by helping St Johnstone to a 2-1 victory over Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side this afternoon.

Goals from James Brown and Nicky Clark delivered a victory for Callum Davidson’s side to leave Celtic seven points clear at the top of the SPFL Premiership table after 13 matches.

Montgomery played a big part in Celtic’s early successes under Postecoglou but after Celtic brought in four first team players in January he moved on loan to Aberdeen.

In July a season long loan to St Johnstone was agreed with Montgomery joining Saints in Spain for pre-season training.

Brown scored a wonder goal in the 41st minute with Clark doubling the lead in the 62nd minute, soon after Montgomery had been booked and survived a red card VAR check.

James Tavernier pulled a goal back in the 74th minute but despite conceding 20 corners the home side held on well without any real threat of an equaliser.

If Celtic can beat Motherwell and Ross County they will go into the World Cup break with at least a seven point lead at the top of the SPFL Premiership. St Johnstone are now in fifth place in the table thanks to three successive wins.

VAR officials are doing what was said would not be done.
They are re-refereeing matches and treating referees as their assistants. Walsh in particular has an agenda against Celtic and is very, very compromised. The officials in this country are corrupt and more and more people from various clubs are realising this and speaking about it. Clubs needs the balls to collectively call them to account and bring court action. They are mis-using their positions.

Today, St Johnstone were simply the best.
