Stephen McGowan has referenced Celtic fans hold a Masonic Conspiracy theory.
The Daily Mail reporter doesn’t reference any incidences of this theory but builds it in to a column that is critical of VAR because the same officials that have been making mistakes on the pitch are now making judgements watching screens.
In midweek Celtic fans were puzzled and suspicious when a borderline offside call went against Jota during the match against Motherwell.
When Motherwell TV shared a long distance image with one fizzy line to illustrate the VAR decision the anger increased.
Over the following 24 hours different claims and versions of events emerged from Motherwell CEO Alan Burrows, the Daily Mail and Scottish Sun published accounts then, more than a day after the match the SFA admitted that something had gone wrong.
No further supporting evidence was presented to show that the right decision was made. Within 103 words the SFA managed to highlight the fact that they don’t understand the offside law by stating ‘the subsequent VAR review determining that the Celtic player had received the ball in an offside position.’
As most fans know, offside is relevant when the ball is played, not where Jota was when the ball was played.
Summing up VAR issues so far in the Daily Mail, McGowan explains:
The only defender granted the genuine benefit of the doubt on a handball in Scotland so far is Michael Smith of Hearts.
And that was all it took to convince Celtic fans that VAR is just another tool for Masonic officials to pursue the most incompetent conspiracy in the history of sport.
You can only imagine the fall-out if one or two of these decisions had actually cost Ange Postecoglou’s side a point at some stage.
Celtic chief executive Michael Nicholson contacted the SFA to register their concerns over the Smith handball. Now the Parkhead club are seeking clarification over the disallowed Jota strike in Motherwell too.
Funnily enough, they haven’t said if they plan to ask questions over the wonky throw-in which ended in Daizen Maeda’s goal.
It didn’t take long for the application of VAR in Scotland to trigger the bickering and paranoia it was brought in to cut out.

There was nothing wonky about the throw-in, the Motherwell player was short of the touchline when he threw the ball which struck Sead Haksabanovic who was also off the pitch.Â
Last week David Dickinson, VAR for the Motherwell match refereed the Celtic v Dundee United match and saw nothing wrong with Craig Sibbald’s studs challenge on chest attack on Giorgos Giakoumakis.
Before VAR was introduced Referee Chief Crawford Allan was on a media charm offensive explaining how everything was super-duper with lessons learned from four years experience across Europe.
Since VAR came into use Allan seems to have taken a vow of silence with paying spectators trying to work out decisions via whatever information and graphics are released to broadcasters.

Hand-waving it away doesn’t work when the video evidence (or convenient lsck thereof) points to something shady and when the SFA tie themselves in knots trying to deny it is an issue! Looks and sounds to me as if MC Gowan was acknowledging that there is a serious Masonic element within officialdom in the game in Scotland ! So scoops ,start earning your corn and sniff around and investigate for once in your lives ! Haven’t read the article, but McGowan seems to be covering a few bases there! Of course it is Celtic that he is criticising, or their supporters in particular. Sweeping statements to cover everything! He fails to see the genuine greviences that we have. Just another Hun and/or Mason. Take your pick, they’re all the same!

If the issues of Racism & Religious Bigotry are manifested to
this level in Football Administration, I.e the SFA and the Lanarkshire Referees Association, just think how far reaching and pervasive the reach of their tendrils are on Civic Scotland; Industry & Commerce, Local Authorities, Poileas Alba and the Legal Fraternity, Civil Service and the Scottish Branch Political Parties.
The ‘ Multicultural and inclusive’ claim is just a hollow sound bite if you’re of Irish Heritage and, or Catholic.
