Peter Grant has labelled Alfredo Morelos unprofessional.
Last week against At Mirren the Colombian striker was picked by Giovanni van Bronckhorst and stayed on the park for the full 90 minutes plus almost 10 minutes of stoppage time from Kevin Clancy.
Since recovering from an injury in pre-season Morelos has played in 19 matches but it seems that the Ibrox medical team can’t get the striker down to a match-fit weight.
Over the last couple of days images have been shared on Instagram of the 26-year-old enjoying a sunshine holiday in Colombia which hasn’t improved his popularity among Ibrox fans.
Picking up on Grant’s appearance on Go Radio discussing when Morelos was left behind from the Champions League qualifier against PSV Eindhoven, the Daily Record reports the former Dunfermline boss saying:
I understand Rangers situation because at that particular time everyone was saying he was worth X, Y and Z so I can understand the reasoning behind that but for me as a manager, I’d have found that very very difficult because I’m going into one of the biggest European games to qualify for the Champions League, the amount of money that was at stake, everything, and he was unprofessional. That for me is unforgiving.
If you are in a football club, you are their player for 24/7 because that’s why I say you’ve got to be professional 24/7. We can let our hair down now and again for sure but there’s times and places for it. They were going into a Champions League game and the manager has got to leave him behind, I found that so difficult and it’s very difficult for Gio.
Morelos will be able to sign a pre-contract deal in January to fill escape Ibrox after a six year stint in Scotland.
