Gary Neville has given a strong endorsement of Josip Juranovic as the runners and riders get into place to sign the Celtic defender.

Croatia’s World Cup dream was ended by Argentina last night but there is no shame in reaching the semi-finals of the competition or failing to tame an inspired Leo Messi.

Over six matches Juranovic has proven himself to be as good as any other right-back in the competition, displays that have alerted clubs in the most powerful European nations.

Even though the defender is under contract with Celtic until May 2026 it seems to be only a matter of timing before the former Hadjuk Split defender is on the move with Alistair Johnston already at Celtic as competition for Tony Ralston.

Listening to Neville on ITV before last night’s match, the Daily Mail reports the former England defender saying:

He’s been absolutely outstanding. These good players we see, when they put those national team shirts on, they become a different entity altogether.

It means something completely different. Juranovic is fantastic going forward. He epitomises the modern full-back.

He’s bright, he’s lively. He’s not just serving the attack. He’s contributing to it. He’s been a real presence in this tournament down that right-hand side.

After 400 matches for Manchester United and 85 England appearances Neville knows what is required to play at right-back.

Croatia compete for the bronze medal in Saturday’s Play Off match but before then talks about Juranovic’s next club will be well underway.
