Moritz Jenz has given an interesting insight into Scottish football where defenders are on the end of trash talk and concealed kicks to any part of the body.

The defender is almost halfway through his season long loan, playing regularly in the SPFL and in all six Champions League ties.

Jenz has picked up four yellow cards in 13 domestic appearances despite Celtic regularly having 60% or more possession as they pin opponents back into their own defensive area.

It has been quite a culture shock after spending last season in the French League with Lorient, in an interview with the German edition of Transfermarkt, Jenz admitted:

First and foremost, I see myself as a mix of destroyer and builder. Scottish football is extremely physical. From my point of view, the strikers are real boards. Trash talk and above all concealed kicks against any part of the body are apparently normal in Scotland. This is where you learn how to take action.

With Carl Starfelt back to fitness and Yuki Kobayashi arriving in January there is going to be a lot more competition for places in Celtic’s central defence.

So far Jenz has provided decent cover without really putting in the level of performance that Cameron Carter-Vickers put in last season to justify making his move a permanent deal.
