Ben Wylie’s loan spell to Airdrie has been cut short with the midfielder back at Celtic.

The two clubs agreed on a loan deal at the end of July but after starting just two matches in League One and making four appearances off the bench Wylie is back training with Celtic.

His last appearance for Airdrie was in a Challenge Cup tie away to Alloa on September 23.

Wylie’s experience shows how difficult the loan market is but sending a playmaker out to a part-time club playing on an artificial surface was always going to be asking a lot.

A year ago Kerr McInroy had a very successful time at Airdrie but every player has their own unique circumstances. Jonathan Afolabi and Toby Paterson also went on loan to the Lanarkshire club.

Johnny Kenny isn’t having much luck either out on loan at Queens Park, starting two matches and making 11 Championship appearances off the bench.
