Yosuke Ideguchi could be on his way back to Japan when the January transfer window opens.

The midfielder joined Celtic last January but has never recovered from the brutal attack on his ankle on his debut away to Alloa in the Scottish Cup.

Referee Don Robertson decided that Mouhamed Niang only deserved a booking but that was upgraded to a red card by the SFA.

That was no consolation to Ideguchi who was sidelined as the Celtic careers of Reo Hatate and Daizen Maeda took off.

The Sun reports:

YOSUKE IDEGUCHI is set to be offered the option of a January return to Japan. The midfielder, 26, has endured an injury-plagued first 12 months at Celtic.

SunSport understands several J-League clubs are monitoring his situation, and could make a move next month. Ideguchi has made just one start since signing from Gamba Osaka, and finds himself way down the pecking order.

During the summer Ange Postecoglou added Aaron Mooy and Oliver Abildgaard to his squad with Ideguchi and James McCarthy struggling to find a place in the matchday squads.

With the hoops boss looking to continually refresh his squad it looks likely that Ideguchi will move on, with the prospect of more new signings his chances of playing at Celtic are unlikely to improve.
