Celtic’s striker interest put on hold

Hyundai Motors are reported to be reluctant to see Cho Gue-sung during the January transfer window.

The striker was linked with a move to Celtic at around the same time as a report emerged that Giorgos Giakoumakis could be leaving the hoops.

With two goals scored at the World Cup Finals in Qatar Gue-sung is currently the focus of attention but according to Football Scotland a transfer to Europe isn’t guaranteed.

Cho Gue-sung’s club Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors hope to keep the striker until the summer, Football Scotland can reveal.

The striker has attracted interest from Celtic this season and the Hoops are among a number of clubs seeking to sign the player. Cho, 24, has already admitted his interest in moving to Europe to play his football but sources in South Korea have told Football Scotland that his current club in the K League want him to stay until the end of the season.

Although Reo Hatate and Daizen Maeda made a big impact switching to Celtic from Asia last January there are less guarantees that a striker will be able to transfer his goal touch in mid-season.

So far Ange Postecoglou has added two defenders to his squad with Alistair Johnston and Yuki Kobayashi joining up on January 1.

The Celtic boss appears to have very definite plans for the transfer window but until the deals are over the line he gives very little away in terms of who he is looking to sign up.
