Scott Robertson appears close to joining Scott Brown at League One Fleetwood.

The midfielder came in from the cold to make his Celtic debut away to Cluj in December 2019 but has only made one more appearance for the hoops in-between spells on loan at Gillingham, Doncaster and Crewe.

Injury last February brought his stint at Crewe to an early end but with so many midfield options at Celtic he hasn’t played a competitive match under Ange Postecoglou.

Last month Postecoglou was less than impressed by Robertson giving a lengthy interview to the Daily Record confirming that there wouldn’t be another contract offer coming his way.

On their transfer blog, at 15.27 today the Daily Record reports:

Scott Robertson is set to sign for Fleetwood Town and reunite with Scott Brown.

The midfielder was frustrated at lack of first team game time under Ange Postecoglou and completed a medical yesterday.

His relationship with former Hoops captain Brown was the deal clincher after being told there would be no Celtic extension on offer come the summer.

Robertson is far from alone in finding competition for midfield places at Celtic too fierce, James McCarthy, Yosuke Ideguchi and Oliver Abildgaard are all in similar positions.

The signing of Tomoki Iwata adds further competition for places with Aaron Mooy recently managing to force his way into the starting XI after joining as a free agent last summer.
