Celtic are continuing to scout off the beaten track for additions to Ange Postecoglou’s squad.

The arrival of Tomoki Iwata made it six signings from the J-League with the former Yokohama F Marinos boss having his finger on the pulse of that market.

Interest on Cho Gue-sung has been well documented with the South Korean striker appearing to be the current focus of transfer activity.

Celtic had previously signed players from Japan and South Korea but under Postecoglou there are other markets that the club are looking at.

During the summer Alexandro Bernabei became the first Argentinian to sign for Celtic, summarising the state of negotiations to sign Cho, Anthony Joseph revealed further details of scouting activity:

Sky Sports News revealed Cho was a target for Celtic in December after he scored two goals against Ghana at the World Cup.

Celtic have been scouring the globe for talent recently, with scouts sent to countries including South Korea, Iran and the UAE. It is understood a number of targets from the Middle East and Asia have emerged.

As the World Cup Finals demonstrated players from Iran and Saudi Arabia look perfectly capable of competing against the best European nations.

While the may be commercial spin off’s interest in these countries is primarily being driven by Postecoglou who has 20 years coaching experience to draw on when assessing the type of player capable of making an impact at Celtic.
