A report from Greece has claimed that Giorgos Giakoumakis has opted to join Atalanta United rather than Urawa Red Diamonds.

It seems inevitable that the striker will leave Celtic this month with a deal already agreed with the J-League side.

At the age of 28 his next move is likely to be the most lucrative of his career with a move to the MLS more appealing to the Greek internationalist:

Greek website SDNA reports:

According to exclusive information from SDNA, Giorgos Giakoumakis has agreed to continue his career in Atlanta and not Urawa Red Diamonds. All that remains is Celtic’s approval to seal the transfer!

Giorgos Giakoumakis will continue his career in MLS and Atlanta, except for a shocking prospect.  According to exclusive information from SDNA, the Celtic ace has found everything with the American club.

The former top scorer of the Eredivisie from the beginning saw the proposal of Atalanta with a good eye.

Celtic may have found everything with Urawa Red Diamonds for the 28-year-old striker, but the Greek international ace has not agreed to a move to Japan.

Giakoumakis was left out of Celtic’s wins over St Mirren and Morton, if the report from SDNA is accurate he is highly unlikely to be involved against Dundee United on Sunday.

At the start of the World Cup break a report emerged that talks over a new Celtic contract had broken down with the striker pushing for a move despite being under contract until May 2026.

As Giakoumakis prepares to move on it seems that Oh Hyeon-gyu is closing in on a deal to join Celtic from Suwon Bluewings.
