Filip Helander is planning ahead with a summer move to Malmo taking shape.

The Ibrox defender will be out of contract in May and has yet to play and football this season.

Helander was signed from Bologna in the summer of 2019 but injury has restricted him to starting just 35 SPFL matches, less than 10 per season.

With Kemar Roofe and John Lundstram draining resources again next season there is very little chance of Helander getting another contract with a return to Sweden on the cards.

At 16.50 today The Sun reported:

Filip Helander looks to be on his way out of Ibrox with his contract expiring in the summer.

The Rangers outcast has struggled for game time since making the switch to Glasgow from Bologna in 2019 after struggling with several injuries since joining.

He has fallen down the pecking order at Rangers due to his setbacks with Connor Goldson and Ben Davies forming a solid partnership at the back in recent weeks.

John Souttar is closing in on his injury return while Leon King is challenging for a first team spot too.

Souttar has played 70 minutes since his Bosman switch last summer, the former Hearts defender has the security of a contract that runs to May 2026.

Ross Wilson was the driving force behind signing Helander and Souttar.
