Rabbi Matondo won’t be getting sent out on loan from Ibrox this month.

The winger was signed in July from Schalke 04 with a fanfare declaring that he was faster than Usain Bolt. Unfortunately no-one mentioned that the Jamaican is a better footballer than the Ibrox star.

Matondo has started just six SPFL matches this season with a further seven appearances coming off the bench.

Since Micky Beale replaced Giovanni van Bronckhorst the Welsh winger has played for 45 minutes across three substitute appearances.

Finding a club to contribute to his wages while on loan looks a big ask for Ross Wilson to achieve with The Express reporting:

According to reports, Matondo won’t be loaned out in this window despite costing the Ibrox outfit around £1.5m in the summer. It could signal that Beale has plans for the nimble winger going in to the second half of the season but did admit the youngster was lacking confidence.

Put £1m onto that transfer fee and match the salary of the winger that Schalke 04 paid £9m for in 2019 and you get an impression of the drain on finances that Matondo is.

A contract running until May 2026 is more of a concern for the club than the ‘nimble winger’.
