Micky Beale has been dealt another transfer blow with news that Dion Sanderson has suffered a hamstring injury.

The Wolves defender is on a season long loan at Birmingham City and recently formed part of the Imaginary Transfer List.

Sanderson played against QPR and was watched by Ibrox star-spotters Ross Wilson and John Park even though there is no chance that he will be quitting Birmingham with the Tribute Act stumping up a transfer fee to sign him from Wolves.

With no budget and no sellable players it promises to be a grim month of deflection for Ibrox fans before a couple of loan deals are completed at the end of the month.

The reality of what is involved in signing Todd Cantwell and Tom Davies has gradually seeped out this week with both players requiring a transfer fee, signing on fee and wages similar to John Lundstram and Kemar Roofe.

Last Friday Beale told a media conference that he had been looking deeply into the eyes of prospective signings- Sanderson won’t be one of them.

The Daily Record reveals:

Reported Rangers target Dion Sanderson has left Birmingham City reeling as an injury has left boss John Eustace urging “caution” over the Wolves loanee.

The 23-year-old has been linked with a move to Ibrox although it’s believed to be a complicated one as his parent club have no break clause in his loan deal. He’s been one of Birmingham’s key men, playing 90 minutes in all but one of their Championship games before an injury forced him off against Hull City.

City would have to allow Wolves to take him back for an Ibrox move to transpire but boss Eustace is more concerned with getting him fit after an issue with his back has led to a hamstring injury. He said ahead of their trip to Bristol City on Saturday: “He had a scan on his hamstring which showed there was no tear or major stain there, he had a very slight strain, caused by the neural effect from his back. He has been outside a little bit today, we will have to wait and see how he reacts to that.

I don’t know if it’s a long term issue with his back, he just jarred it in the Burnley game, which had the effect then against Hull – obviously he came off in an important period of time. It’s not a long-term issue but when you have a little effect in there you have just got to be cautious over the next week.”

Two weeks into the transfer window without making any signings Beale will be spinning away upbeat yarns at today’s media conference.
