Kevin Clancy will referee Saturday’s Scottish Cup tie between Celtic and Morton, tomorrow night he will take charge of Kilmarnock’s home match against Micky Beale’s club.

In a strange quirk Steven McLean has been given a similar schedule, taking charge of tomorrow’s Celtic v St Mirren match then refereeing St Johnstone’s Scottish Cup tie against the Ibrox club on Saturday, Andrew Dallas will be the VAR for both matches.

With 16 officials refereeing Premiership matches this season it seems unusual to put the spotlight on two referees being put in charge of the two major Glasgow clubs in successive matches.

Celtic go into Sunday’s tie with Ange Postecoglou looking to complete his domestic trophy collection after the hoops were knocked out in last season’s Scottish Cup semi final.

Clancy was in charge of Celtic’s 4-1 win over St Johnstone on December 24 when David Turnbull was sent off in the closing stages. His only previous Celtic match this season was at home to Hearts in August when Robbie Neilson’s side suffered two late red cards. Barry Cook will be the fourth official on Saturday with Craig Napier on VAR duty.

Celtic’s home match with Hearts, scheduled for February 25 will have to be rescheduled due to the Viaplay Cup Final at Hampden.

Are they the only refs in Scotland? Absolute garbage.
Right enough….thinking about it….we have no referees in Scotland…..none at the World Cup. How embarrassing. The SFA should hang their heads in shame.

  • John S says:

The only thing unusual about referee and VAR appointments is the systemic corruption and even that has become the norm.
