Two days after Bill Leckie condemned Celtic fans and accused them of breaking a minute of silence The Sun has revealed that it wasn’t away fans at Ibrox.

From the other side of the pitch in the press gantry Leckie blamed Celtic fans for being unable to keep quiet for 60 seconds to respect 66 fans that died leaving Ibrox in 1971.

Plenty of home supporters recorded the silence on their phones hoping that Celtic fans would break the silence but during Monday and Tuesday no evidence surfaced.

Late on Wednesday the true picture emerged with a video clip picking up the anti-Catholic hatred from a home fan positioned close to the 700 away supporters.

The Sun reports:

THE minute’s silence for Ibrox Disaster victims was disrupted by a sickening shout of ‘f*** the Pope,’ new footage reveals.

A video circulating on social media taken from within the area of the corner of the stadium housing Celtic fans filmed a short section of the silence when the vile call can be heard.

It’s customary for Rangers to hold a minute’s silence to remember the 66 victims of the stadium tragedy that happened on January 2, 1971 when they have a home match at this time of year.

In the new footage that has come to light, however, it can be heard that the silence was also interrupted by a vile shout aimed at the Pope.

Filmed from the corner of the Broomloan Stand where the away fans were seated, a shout of ‘f*** the Pope’ can be heard.

The disgusting shout came just two days after the former Pope, Benedict XVI, had passed away at the age of 95. The comment appears to spark further disruptions to the moment of silence.

In 2019 UEFA twice closed parts of Ibrox due to racist abuse from home supporters. The SFA, SPFL, SPL and SFL have never taken any action.

With operational CCTV and 95% of the home support Season Ticket holders the person that made the chant shouldn’t be too difficult to identify.

How should Celtic deal with the SFA over VAR?
