Don Robertson had more than a few VAR related issues at Tannadice yesterday.

In the first half he awarded Celtic a penalty for a foul on Kyogo Furuhashi, after a pitch-side check on the VAR monitor he changed his mind with the half finishing goal-less.

Ten minutes after the break Robertson somehow failed to notice Kieran Freeman raising his hand to block a pass from Jota, after playing on a VAR check resulted in a Celtic penalty but no yellow card for the already booked United defender.

Midway through the second half there was another baffling decision from Robertson when a United defender went over the ball into the ankle of Liel Abada.

Fortunately for the winger his foot was off the ground, the impact and damage was minimised but only through good fortune.

Robertson appeared to have a clear view of the incident but didn’t even award a foul as Abada fell to the ground.

According to Sky Sports, Euan Anderson on VAR duty reviewed the incident but decided on no further action.

On another day that incident could have been the talking point, Abada could be facing a spell out injured.

With each passing week it seems that the implementation of VAR becomes more and more mysterious, consistency seems to have been a casualty.

Great spot. This and the Mwell foul on Starfelt are far more important VAR “mistakes” than the handballs.when you consider the two red cards at Ibrox for Livvy and StJ players
