From the safety of his radio studio Ally McCoist was looking for a driver to take Ange Postecoglou to Leeds.

The former Scotland striker might be the favourite pundit of English football audiences but that doesn’t dull the pain of watching Celtic racking up the trophies.

Today’s victory in the final of the Viaplay Cup was the 15th time that a domestic trophy has been won by Celtic in the last seven seasons. Two more gongs are still up for grabs before the end of this season.

It is an incredible story of success, today at Hampden McCoist has to share his thoughts as the former Socceroos boss tightens his grip on Scottish football.

Watching the exchange on Viaplay Sports, The Sun reports:

And the Hoops boss had McCoist in stitches with his parting shot. Turning to the former Ibrox ace, Postecoglou said: “Any chance of a lift back to Celtic Park? You were offering me a lift a while back!”

McCoist, motioning as to give Postecoglou a piggy-back, fired back: “Nae bother – jump on, jump on!”

As the Celtic boss leaves with the punditry team in stitches, host Emma Dodds jokes: “I think Ally was hoping it’d be a bit further than Celtic Park, weren’t you? You were going to drive him a bit further, weren’t you?”

McCoist replied: “Leeds it was, at one point!”

Dodds joked back: “What are you thinking now, Southampton?”

McCoist, still laughing, added: “Anywhere, anywhere! I’m willing to cross the Channel at this point!”

Postecoglou’s personal trophy tally now stands at three out of four since he took over at a club that had finished the 20/21 season 25 points behind in the SPFL Premiership with the club in meltdown.

Some inspired signings plus total belief in his own beliefs has taken Celtic to new heights with just one domestic defeat over 90 minutes since September 2021.
