Celtic finally crushed St Mirren 5-1 to book a place in the quarter-final draw for the Scottish Cup.

The Paisley side were in the game until the 70th minute when Steven McLean finally awarded a penalty for handball against Richard Taylor.

After a lengthy check over at the pitch-side monitor McLean pointed to the penalty spot and sent off the Saints defender.

With Aaron Mooy substituted on the hour mark Reo Hatate stepped up and confidently struck the penalty beyond Trevor Carson.

That goal broke St Mirren’s resistance with Oh Hyeon-gyu scoring his first goal for the club followed by further strikes from Matt O’Riley and another from Hatate in stoppage time.

The main concern for Ange Postecoglou was an early shoulder injury to Kyogo Furuhashi who was replaced by Liel Abada with Daizen Maeda moving in to the centre and opening the scoring.

On Monday the quarter-final draw will be made, Celtic’s next match is at home to Aberdeen on Saturday.
