Only an idiot would rule themselves out of a job that they haven’t been offered, much like a manager shouting about how he values loyalty before doing a runner from the club he’s been with for four months.

On a slow week, without transfers or midweek fixtures the sacking of Jesse Marsch at Leeds United created far more attention in Scotland than Frank Lampard’s dismissal from Everton less than two weeks earlier.

Every update from England about the Leeds vacancy has had the Postecoglou angle applied.

A new candidate emerges and it is relief for Celtic, the candidate turns down Leeds and Postecoglou is back in the frame.

It is all tired, repetitive and predictable, fortunately the Celtic boss doesn’t play along with the game, not even to say that he is flattered to be linked.

Across the city there is one guy that can’t stop blabbing about himself although yesterday he didn’t have much to say about former England starlet Todd Cantwell or being awarded a penalty following contact two yards outside the penalty box.

Every job I’ve done, I’ve done as if I’m going to be there forever. That’s the role of any manager. If you go away from that then you’re not doing a service to the club you represent.

Every decision I make, I’m making it as if I’ll be here forever – but I won’t be. That decision might be taken out of my hands.

If we lose today and lose next week, it’s a whole different discussion. I’m not silly enough not to understand that my role is to keep focused on what I’ve been doing.

I’m trying to create a football team that our supporters are proud of and hopefully give them some memories that will last forever. If I do that, it’s all I need in terms of credit in my bank.
